Food Rx

This Food Rx program helps patients and their families break down barriers and provide fruits and vegetables each week at no cost. We work with 9 health clinics in the Flathead Valley and focus on food insecure clients with chronic health conditions. We partner with Logan Health and Great Valley Health Center clinics.

Food Rx – How It Works

During the farmers market season, participants receive a prescription for a weekly stipend to spend on fresh produce at their local farmers market. Each member of their family counts towards the total stipend. We believe that changing habits is easier when the family is treated as a whole. To continue the fresh produce throughout the year, we contract with Wicked Good Produce to make bi-weekly CSA-style bags of regionally sourced fresh fruits and vegetables.

Clinics

We have many cohorts – some examples are the Diabetes Cohort through the Diabetes Prevention and Education center; Logan Health Primary Care in Columbia Falls; and a partnership with the Logan Health school-based clinics in the Flathead Valley. After a year in the program, diabetes clients showed improvements in key health metrics such as blood pressure, body weight, and A1C levels which measures diabetes risk. Participants reported that our educational newsletters increased their confidence in cooking and storing vegetables.
